The Department of Economics invites applications for the position of an Environmental and Energy Economist (m/f) (Senior or Post-Doc level)code digit - 148/2011

The successful candidate will be recruited full-time for two years under employment contract with the UFZ, with an option for subsequent contract prolongation, depending on the final approval of the project funding. Work description The position is embedded into the Helmholtz-Alliance "Future infrastructures for meeting energy demands - Towards sustainability and social compatibility (Energy-Trans)", a joint research effort of eight Helmholtz Centres and university partners in Germany. Until 2016, the Alliance examines options to design and promote the transformation of energy infrastructures by an optimal coordination between politics, technology, consumer behavior and societal participation. The position particularly focuses on the economic evaluation of the environmental policy framework to guide a sustainable transformation of infrastructures in the energy sector.

Prerequisites for candidates

We seek a researcher who is capable of and willing to develop methodologies, concepts and contents related to the research topic, which are of high scientific impact and strong political relevance. Applicants should hold a PhD in economics or a related discipline, and have advanced skills in environmental and/or energy economics. Expertise in quantitative approaches is an advantage. Excellent teamwork capacities, strong communication skills and a fluent command of spoken and written English are further prerequisites. Experience in the acquisition and coordination of third-party-funded projects and knowledge of German are desirable.

Conditions

Salary will be according to civil service guidelines, up to level 14 TVöD depending on personal skills and experiences. The place of work is Leipzig. The UFZ is an equal opportunity employer.
